Welcome to my home studio! Over the past year and a half, I've been working on a few updates and tweaks to improve both my workflow and the overall vibe of the space. Whether you’re curious about acoustics, gear, or how to make your own studio more efficient, there’s plenty to explore. Let’s dive into the details of the upgrades, the gear I use daily, and what’s next for my studio setup.

Acoustic Upgrades: The Heart of the Studio

One of the most significant updates has been the addition of custom acoustic panels, which I built with a little help from family and friends. These panels, including bass traps with built-in diffusion, have significantly improved the room's sound. While the panels are functional and visually appealing, this is just phase one. I still plan to add a ceiling cloud and update the back of the room for even better acoustics.

For now, the old bass traps from my previous setup are making do, but the improvements have already been a game-changer for mixing and mastering.

My Studio’s Powerhouse: The Computer Setup

At the core of my workflow is a MacBook Pro (M1 Max), which I’ve been using for two years—and it’s still going strong. Its portability is a huge advantage, allowing me to easily take my work on the go without missing a beat. To keep everything connected, I use the CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 4, a robust hub that handles all my devices effortlessly.

Essential Gear on My Desk

Here’s a quick rundown of the gear that helps me stay productive:

  • Softube Console 1 & Fader: Seamlessly integrated with Cubase, this combo makes mixing tactile and efficient.
  • Heritage Audio RAM 1000: A versatile monitor controller that also connects to my phone via Bluetooth—super handy.
  • Kensington Trackball Mouse: Ergonomic and precise, this has been my go-to for years.
  • Stream Deck: The compact version is great, but I’m eyeing the larger model to avoid flipping through pages constantly.

Let’s not forget my personal MVP: the coffee mug warmer. It might sound trivial, but it keeps my coffee hot during long sessions, and that’s priceless.

Monitoring and Headphones

Accurate monitoring is critical, and I rely on multiple pairs of headphones, including the Audeze MM-500 and Head 2, both of which deliver stellar sound for mixing and mastering. My monitors are paired with the ARC Studio Room Correction System to ensure a balanced listening environment.

Video and Content Creation

This studio isn’t just for music—it’s also where I create video content. My main camera, the Sony A7C, captures crisp footage, and I use a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 for portable, high-quality B-roll. Lighting is key, and I’ve rigged flexible setups that double as mic stands to maximize space.

Ergonomics Matter

Spending long hours in front of the computer takes its toll, which is why investing in a good chair is essential. My latest addition is the Flexispot C7 ergonomic chair, which has been a lifesaver for my lower back. With adjustable lumbar support, armrests, and a wide, comfortable seat, it’s easily the most comfortable chair I’ve owned.

What’s Next for the Studio?

There’s always room for improvement! My future plans include upgrading my Stream Deck, adding a ceiling cloud, and possibly some new monitors. For now, I’m thrilled with the setup—it’s efficient, comfortable, and inspires creativity.

Final Thoughts

A well-organized and functional home studio doesn’t just make work easier; it fuels creativity. From acoustic treatments to ergonomic upgrades, every decision I’ve made has been about enhancing the experience of working in this space. If you’re building or upgrading your own studio, start with the essentials, and don’t be afraid to invest in gear that makes your workflow smoother.
